Radiation oncology department is considered to be the largest radiotherapy department of thoracic cancer in East China. It has a broad range of advanced treatment technologies including stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT), intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT), image-guided radiotherapy (IGRT), adaptive radiotherapy (ART) and etc.
The department is conducting extensive clinical and translational research in terms of surgery-based/radiotherapy-based multidisciplinary treatment, and personalized treatment in thoracic tumors including lung cancer, esophageal cancer，thymoma and thymic carcinoma. It especially focuses on the in-depth studies on the establishment of new radiotherapy technologies, quality control and assurance of radiotherapy, and the multimodality treatment strategies combined with surgery, chemotherapy, targeted therapy and/or immunotherapy.
This professional team has been involved in the development of individualized radiotherapy based on biological omics, image omics and phenotypic omics. Additionally, the exploratory work of artificial intelligence-based smart radiotherapy was conducted, laying the foundation for the rapid development of radiotherapy. Presently, the department has established the cutting edge of radiotherapy technology platform including linear accelerators, CT simulators, conventional simulations and Pinnacle planning systems, reaching the leading level of the world.
Moreover, the department is the unit of the vice chair of Chinese Society of Therapeutic Radiation Oncology and chair of the radiotherapy branch of Shanghai Medical Doctor Association, Shanghai Jiao Tong University Doctoral Degree Programs, Good Clinical Practice (GCP) Training.
